Who We Are
International Help Fund Australia has changed its name to Pacific Aid Australia. For eight years we have been collaborating with Pacific Island communities, governments and businesses and international, regional and Australian private, public and civil partners to work for sustainability in the region. We needed a name that clearly reflects who we are, where we work and what we do. We are a dynamic Australian organisation that is passionate about and committed to the future of the Pacific Islands.
Our Vision
'A sustainable Pacific community living in dignity and in harmony with our environment, culture, economies and our neighbours'.

Territories in the areas of environment, health, education, water sanitation and supply, economic sustainability and cultural preservation, and direct aid to the socially disadvantaged. We do not discriminate against religious, political, social, cultural, age or gender background.
What is Ecologically Sustainable Development? Among the many appropriate definitions of ecologically sustainable development, we accept the definition of ecologically sustainable development as meaning, ‘to use, conserve and enhance the community’s resources in a manner that ecological processes on which life depends are maintained, as well as enhancing social equity, so as to continuously improve present and future quality of life’ (after Brundtland 1987, Australian Commonwealth Government 1990 , Mark Diesendorf 1999 ).

Special Appeals
Save Easter Island's Drinking Water![]()
This unique Polynesian island, half of which is UNESCO listed World Heritage National Park, risks losing its drinking water within a few years if urgent measures are not implemented now. As part of phase two of our program to prevent the loss of Easter Island's drinking water supply, we are appealing for the following:
- Sponsor a Composting Bin Campaign
- Funds for airline tickets for experts

SPONSOR A COMPOSTING BIN FOR EASTER ISLAND
Each 1 kg of composted waste saves 1 kg of greenhouse gas emissions!
Easter Island is one of the most unique yet remote islands of the Pacific Ocean, representing the most extreme example of forest destruction in the world. Famed for its gigantic collection of Moai statues, the island is now an ecological wasteland, its resource base having been destroyed by humans. It now faces the dual threat of desertification and contamination of its water supply due to landfill wastes.
International Help Fund Australia is an Australian-based non-governmental organisation, focusing on assisting our Pacific neighbours to find practical solutions to the these catastrophic environmental issues. One of these solutions is composting. Composting not only diverts organic wastes from landfill which threatens the Island’s water supply, but also provides enriched soils for subsistance farmers to grow healthy food for their families.
Our goal is to provide a composting bin to each of Easter Island’s 1200 households in order to assist local efforts to clear the contaminated water supply and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Tumbleweed bins – which are rust, rat and dog proof and are 100% recyclable at the end of their life – provide the perfect solution. Tumbleweed is also providing 1 free bin for every 10 sponsored!
We need your help to make a difference on this beautiful, environmentally damaged island.
All it takes is a $150 one off payment or $15 paid monthly for ten months.
